Accessible touring is where we started, so an accessible website matters to us too. Here is what we have built in, and how to tell us when we can do better.
The site follows the settings you already have
There is no separate accessibility widget on this site. The settings on your phone, tablet or computer reach every page directly, so you set them once and they work everywhere, not only here.
- Larger text: use your browser's zoom (the aA menu in Safari on iPhone, Ctrl or Cmd and + on a computer) or the text-size setting in Chrome on Android. The page reflows to fit rather than cutting anything off.
- Less motion: turn on "Reduce motion" on your device and the animations and movement across the site stop.
- Keyboard: press Tab as soon as a page loads and a clear outline follows you through the page, starting with a skip-to-content link.
None of this relies on any outside service, and nothing about your settings is sent to us.
What we have built into the site
We have aimed this website at the principles of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. We do not hold a formal accessibility certification or audit, but we have designed and tested toward these goals:
Keyboard navigation
A skip-to-content link, a logical tab order, and visible focus states so the whole site can be used without a mouse.
Clear structure
Proper headings and page landmarks so screen readers can move through content in a sensible order.
Descriptive images
Meaningful photographs carry alternative text; decorative images are marked so they do not add noise.
Readable contrast
Text colours are chosen for contrast against their backgrounds.
Respects your settings
If your device asks for reduced motion, the site honours it automatically. There is nothing to switch on here first.
Works on any screen
The layout adapts to phones, tablets and desktops, so nothing is cut off or trapped off-screen.
Accessible touring is who we are
Hunter Valley Tours commenced in 2015 to be the first privately owned, accessible, recreational tour service in the greater Hunter Valley. Our luxury minibus has a hydraulic lifter, an automatic slide-out step and rails, and we personally vet the venues we visit for ramps and lifts.
