From the Hawkesbury to the Hunter
Brooklyn is one of those places that already feels like a day off. Perched on the southern bank of the Hawkesbury River, squeezed between the water and the bush, it’s about as far from the city as you can get while, still technically being in Sydney.
Heading north to the Hunter Valley from here is a natural extension of that feeling. You’re already on the M1 corridor, the Hunter Valley is roughly an hour and a half up the road, and a guided wine tour means nobody must think about the drive.
A Different Kind of Day Out
Most people in Brooklyn are used to getting out on the water, not necessarily heading inland. But the Hunter Valley makes for a genuinely good change of pace, trading the Hawkesbury for rolling vineyard country, and fish and chips for a long winery lunch.
HV Tours picks up from a location that suits your group. From there it’s an easy, comfortable ride north while you get the day started. Once you arrive, the focus is on boutique cellar doors that don’t feel like tourist traps, smaller producers, real winemakers, wines you won’t find at the local bottle shop.
A full-day tour runs about eight hours, with your first tasting from 10am and a sit-down lunch included. Half-day options are available if a shorter day suits better.

What’s on the Day
The Hunter Valley spreads across Pokolbin, Lovedale, and Cessnock, and there’s more to it than just wine. Depending on what your group is after, the day can include stops at local distilleries, cheese and chocolate producers, or a craft brewery. The itinerary is built around what you want to do, not just what ticks the most boxes.
Cellar doors close around 5pm, so you’re back in Brooklyn in time for dinner, possibly with a few bottles to show for it.
Good for Groups
Brooklyn has the kind of tight-knit community feel where a group day out tends to happen properly, not just a few people who all drove themselves. Getting a group onto the one bus keeps everyone together, means nobody’s on sparkling water all day, and makes the whole thing a lot more enjoyable.
Wine tours from Brooklyn work well for birthdays, hens and bucks weekends, groups of friends, and work celebrations. Private tours are available for groups who want the day entirely to themselves, with options for small or large buses.
Getting There and Home
All transport is comfortable and air-conditioned. Pickup is flexible, if some of your group is coming from further along the M1 or from Newcastle, HV Tours also picks up from Maitland, Singleton, and most Hunter Valley accommodation.
Any wine you buy during the day travels safely on the bus with you.
